Susan's interest in Art was inspired by an interest in the way Color, Composition & Light can elicit emotional responses from others. The diversity of Susan's early creative explorations allowed her to experiment creatively as she developed her own unique visual language, which is still evolving today.
Whereas many artists have a focus on creating accurate representations of their subject matter, Susan's interest grew in capturing the feeling of a particular time or location. Today, this is a key component of much of her modern abstract works, with emotion & memory providing the direction for most compositions.
Susan pursued formal training in art through a number of well-respected schools which allowed her to expand upon her understanding of techniques for painting, photography, print-making, and graphic design as well as develop her fine art technical abilities.
Formal training was accomplished via courses taken at:
The experience with these art programs provided opportunities to meet many successful artists and mentorship, while also creating an opportunity for Susan to explore multiple mediums.

Continually, the various landscapes of the Pacific Northwest – from forests to shorelines, and islands to rivers -- and changing skies are an inspiration for Susan as a painter.
Susan does not paint exact locales; instead she converts the memory and color of a place and/or emotional impression of a location into an abstract composition that captures the spirit of a place.
